Husbandry: An ancient art for the modern world is the first book by Jonty Williams.
An in depth read about the relationships and responsibilities we have to the earth and how the ancient art of Husbandry may help to reconnect us back to our roles as “husbands and wives” of this world.
“Ever thought of being a husband or wife to a piece of the earth?
Each and every human being alive to day belongs to a world which is alive. The resources of land, sea and air we find ourselves in are composed of alive ecological communities – both urban and rural. We humans find ourselves places at the top of the food chains of these pieces of earth. This gives us a special, self-interested need to look after them.
This book tells a story of husbandry – a proper, time honoured way in which humanity may participate as members and marriage partners with these “earth communities”. This book also shows how we might link together and apply the power of our economic systems to this task so that earth communities and humanities marriage to them may both flourish.”
About The Author:
Jonty’s interest in land work began with a Degree in ecology and genetics at Lancaster University. This led, through an interest in all things to do with soil, to a five year apprenticeship in husbandry. He was taught and mentored by a countryman called Walter Edwards, who was brought up in Devon’s finest traditions of looking after the land and all things on it. Jonty went on to run a successful dairy herd for many years, and has since taken on the task of understanding and learning about how we can renew the practices of husbandry today.
Jonty also runs various courses throughout the year here at The Husbandry School, including the 1 Day Introduction to Husbandry Course and the 2 Day Foundation in Husbandry Course. For more information on these and our other courses available click here!
